number of doses of frozen semen available, the mare being bred, and the stallion
owner's policy. Many of our stallions are older, with limited doses of frozen semen

There are now two options available. Many mare owners feel more comfortable with
a standard breeding contract as opposed to purchasing semen by the dose.
Therefore, I've decided to offer both options to breeders for many of the stallions. If
you buy the semen per dose, it is just that -- an insemination dose. You can buy as
many doses as you want, and you can use it whenever you want.
The limited live foal guarantee (LLFG) contract is a contract by which you enter into
a contract to breed a specific mare. The contract will be good for two years
(extenuating circumstances would be taken into account on an individual basis). You
get one insemination dose to use per cycle, which means that the veterinarian needs
to breed your mare within six hours post-ovulation. Two doses will not be given for
one cycle. If the mare is not in foal at the 14-16 day pregnancy check, you get
another dose of semen. There is a maximum of three doses of semen. The contract
is considered fulfilled with the foal stands and nurses. If the mare aborts or the foal
dies without standing and nursing (veterinary report required; foaling must be
attended), then more semen will be given (again, up to the initial three dose
maximum). If necessary, two additional doses of semen may be purchased at a
discounted rate per dose.
PLEASE NOTE: The semen is packaged in 0.5-mL straws, and a "dose" of
semen is a full insemination dose, the number of straws required to provide
the proper amount of progressively motile sperm to impregnate a mare.
