We recognize that breeding with frozen semen can be an expensive and frustrating experience. In the past we
tried offering a live foal guarantee, but found it difficult to manage. Stallions based in this country can offer a live
foal guarantee with frozen semen because fresh or chilled semen can always be provided as a back-up, if frozen
semen doesn't work. Many veterinarians do not want to breed mares with frozen semen; similarly, many
veterinarians will attempt this, at the request of their client, but do not do it properly. Breeding with frozen semen
is not difficult, but it does require precise timing and good mare care after breeding. In Europe, some stallion
owners do offer live foal guarantees with their frozen semen, but they also provide a list of veterinarians who
have to do the breeding; if the mare doesn't go to one of those veterinarians, she does not get bred.
Beginning in 2006, all of our semen was sold by the insemination dose (i.e., the number of straws of semen,
determined at the time of collection, required to impregnate a mare, which varies between 3 straws and 15
straws, depending upon the stallion). We had good luck with this policy and will continue it in 2008. The price will
be set according to demand, the age of the stallion, and the amount of semen available. Concessions for top
mares will be available for many of the stallions. This will mean that you can breed your mare as many times as
you'd like, to as many stallions as you'd like. If you have a mare that you'd like to try with frozen semen, you can
buy a single dose and give it a try, without any long-term commitment. Similarly, if you have a lovely yearling filly
that you would like to breed to a stallion with limited semen, you can purchase the semen now and store it until
the filly is old enough to breed.
If you want to reserve semen, you can purchase it early and we will store it for you free of charge until the 2008
breeding season. If you want it stored longer, arrangements can be made.
