Leading Mare Award, HITS Ocala 2008

The Leading Mare Award is a complimentary embryo transfer, to be issued to the highest
placing North American mare in the $100,000 Deluca Toyota Tundra Grand Prix. The
mare does not have to be a US-bred mare, but she has to permanently reside in North
America. In the event that the top mare is based outside of North America (in which case
the mare would be shipping out of the country after the show), then the award will go to
the next highest placing mare based in North America.

The details of the award are as follows: all mare care related to the embryo transfer
procedure is included in the award, including palpations/ultrasounds, insemination with
cooled/frozen semen, uterine flush to collect the embryo, all work to prepare the embryo
for implantation into the recipient mare; all work to prepare the recipient mare and
transfer the embryo into the recipient mare (only if an EMCO recipient mare is used – if
the embryo is shipped to a different facility for implantation, then these charges are the
mare owner’s responsibility); and frozen semen for which EMCO acts as an agent. The
mare owner is responsible for providing a recipient mare for the embryo(s) collected,
whether it be a mare they already own or by leasing a recipient mare from EMCO or
another source. A maximum of two breedings/embryo flushes will be performed in an
effort to get an embryo. In the event no embryo is achieved after a second attempt, the
mare owner can opt to try again, but will be responsible for normal expenses at this point.
If more than one embryo is retrieved, the mare owner is responsible for the lease of an
additional recipient mare. If the mare owner wants to use a stallion outside of the stallions
available at EMCO, they are responsible for all fees for that stallion, including stud fee,
collection fees, and shipping fees (to get the semen to EMCO). EMCO’s obligation is
complete when a fetal heartbeat is detected in the recipient mare.

This award is intended for use on the mare who competed in the class; however, if the
mare is deemed unsuitable for breeding (because of problems with the reproductive tract
or some other health issue), a substitute mare may be used. A substitute mare may not
be used because of competition schedule or rider schedule. EMCO will make every
attempt to work with the mare owner/competitor to perform the necessary work. With this
in mind, the award will be valid through March 16, 2010.
